Do you think you might have a sleep disorder, or do you know someone who might have one, and you’d like to help them? Sleep disorders and sleep apnea can be impossible to self diagnose, especially with children. Also, any issues with sleep can have multiple causes. For these reasons, it’s important to get professional assistance with sleep issues.
Medical Access prides itself on being able to offer such a broad spectrum of family services, including sleep studies. We’ll sit with you in a consultation to learn about your symptoms, and then we’ll work with you to develop a sleep study that will help us learn more. In time, we will determine the cause behind the symptoms, and then address the cause directly.
How do you diagnose sleep conditions at Medical Access?
Our board-certified sleep specialists have been studying sleep for many years now. They know about the latest research and advancements in sleep medicine. And they also know about the many causes and treatments for sleep disorders and sleep apnea. The way we diagnose serious sleep conditions is with a diagnostic sleep study.
The first step is a simple consultation with one of our sleep specialists here at Medical Access. We’ll ask you about your sleep history, medical history, current health issues, and current sleep issues. We’ll also ask about any symptoms that could be related to sleep issues, like fatigue or a foggy memory.
Next, the specialist will take a look at your mouth, nose, and throat. This will help us determine whether the issue could be caused by a nasal obstruction or enlarged tonsils. If the cause is relatively simple, then our treatment will be simple too. However, if the specialist determines that we need more information, he or she might decide that a sleep study is a necessary next step. The sleep study will allow us to diagnose the underlying condition.
What is a sleep study, exactly?
A sleep study is a test to determine how well you sleep and how you respond to problems with sleep. Here at Medical Access, you will spend a night in a quiet room where your sleep patterns and any sleep interruptions will be monitored. We can monitor your airflow as you breathe, the amount of oxygen in your blood, your heart rate, your brain waves, your movements, and your sleep stages. This procedure is entirely noninvasive and pain free!
After your sleep session and our recordings, we will interpret the data and make our diagnosis. Soon after that, we will suggest a treatment plan along with our advice on how to sleep more soundly.
